Features

Progressive JPEG

Amplience now supports progressive JPEG.

In order to use this particular feature, you will need to add the below parameter to an image that is being served from ADIS as a JPEG.

fmt.jpeg.interlaced=true

Example:

http://i1.adis.ws/i/AmplienceQAUI/wallhaven-331673?fmt.jpeg.interlaced=true

Adding this option will return a progressive JPEG instead of a regular.

With

PNG

PNG palettisation (PNGP) is aliased to the new fmt.png.{options} flag.

Available options for fmt.png are:

fmt.png.indexed=true

fmt.png.palettesize=100

fmt.png.dither=false

When requesting a PNG will give you back a PNGP using the above options, you can modify your request.

http://i1.adis.ws/i/support/happyburger?fmt.png.indexed=true&fmt.png.palettesize=100&fmt.png.dither=false

fmt.png.indexed=true enables palettisation (with default palette size of 256)

fmt.png.palettesize=100 overrides the default value

fmt.png.dither=false (enabled by default) disables dithering. Dithering helps smooth out the colour banding when dealing with a reduced colour palette. Dithering may increase filesize due to increased difficulty when compressing.

Tips/Notes:

  • You can test this feature using chrome network tools, where there is a way to simulate different network speeds.  Set it to something slower, like 3g, and then load a DI image (as per the above diagrams).
  • There is also an option to add Progressive JPEG at account level to your root template, please contact either your CS representative or the Support team, to get this provisioned at account level.
